Every shipment is different, and requirements depend on the product, route, and the rules of both the exporting and importing country. The documents below are common starting points, not a complete list.
Core commercial documents
The commercial invoice and packing list are used almost universally. They must be consistent with each other and with the purchase order.
Transport documents
A bill of lading (sea) or airway bill (air) evidences the contract of carriage and, for a bill of lading, may also act as a document of title.
Market-specific documents
Certificates of origin, phytosanitary certificates or product test reports may be required. Ask your customs broker what your destination requires before the order is placed.
